Productions Under Contract
Signatory & One-Off
Requirements & Resources
Welcome to the Pacific Northwest.
Learn about the required procedures and responsibilities for productions working under, or planning to work under, an IATSE agreement in the Local 488 jurisdiction (Oregon, Washington, Montana, Northern Idaho).
Early coordination with the Union is required.
Required Notification & Coordination
- Notify Local 488 that the production is working in the jurisdiction
- Give first consideration to qualified Local 488 members
- Submit all intended hires to the Business Agents for good-standing verification before hiring
- Add Local 488 to call sheet distribution at callsheets@iatse488.org
Hiring & Good Standing
- Use the Local 488 Member Directory as the first source for crew
- Submit crew names to the Business Agents before offers are issued
Out-of-Jurisdiction Crew
- Work Permits must be approved before travel and before work begins for all covered crew not traveled from Los Angeles
- Crew may not work as a “local hire” unless they are permanent residents of the jurisdiction and have an official address with the IATSE that is within 60 miles of the production location, regardless of union membership or their home Local. There are no exceptions to this in our contracts
REMINDER: Even if Local 488 members live farther than 60 miles from your production location, hiring us from the other states in our jurisdiction is still more cost-effective than traveling crew from other Locals under the Area Standards Agreement (ASA) because of the “Nearby Hire” provisions.
Work Assessments
- Oregon, Washington and Montana are NOT “right-to-work” states
- The Work Assessment Authorization form is required for all covered crew
- The form must be included with startwork and submitted to payroll
- The 3% assessment is deducted unless exempt (traveled from Los Angeles, or not covered by Local 488, including crew working under Locals 600, 700 or 800).
- Not being affiliated with an IATSE local (“non-union”) does not exempt a crew member from this deduction.
Workplace Safety
- A designated safety contact for your production, the IATSE Safety Hotline, and the names of the Local 488 Shop Stewards must be printed on the call sheet
- OSHA 10 General Entertainment Safety is required for Local 488 members
- Oregon and Washington are OSHA Plan States
- An OSHA Outreach Specialist is available
